1999 ranger 4x4 3.0 pickup. any help with replaceing the rotors. The Haynes repair manual is not very good for this replacement. Can the special tools that are needed for this job be bought on the internet.
What special tools? The front rotors on your 4x4 come off without removing the hubs, if that's what you're getting hung up on. Just remove the calipers and pull off the rotors, they slide off over the hubs.
Yes, it is a very simple job. I thought the haynes was plenty enough help to get it done (maybe you are looking at the pre-1998 directions in the haynes??). Took me about 45 minutes to replace front pads and rotors the first time i did it. Much more simple than i thought it would be. i belive the calipers are only on there with like 2 bolts. Just undo them and off the caliper comes, then just pull the rotor right off. Just make sure to have large C-clamp (i found it worked the best) ready to bottom out the caliper piston before you put on the new pads.
I did not pull the wheels yet, I was told by a friend that the 99 ranger with the pulse vacuum hubs, will have to be removed to get the rotor off, I have replaced many rotors in the past and they are fairly simple jobs as Rockledge and Higgin have stated I sure am glad to here the hubs do not have to be removed, thats where the special tools come in
