Hello, well I'm in need of the metal bracket that holds the bigger fuel cell for my 77 F250 4x4, single cab not extended long bed. We currently have the tank out of the truck due to a leak, the hose was cracked badly. the metal bracketry that held in that massive cell is so badly rusted that it will not support the weight of that big tank. We have contacted LMC and checked local yards for that much needed piece. Any suggestions or places that might carry that part would be greatly appreciated. We are running the truck on the back tank which doesn't hold but 8 gallons of fuel. We are running a 429 Thunder Jet in him so a bigger fuel capacity would be much better. I guess no long distance driving. Thanks in advance for any help you may have.
If you are putting in the bigger 39-gal tank, LMC sells a spacer kit for that install. I just did a quick Google search and found these straps. Is that what you are looking for?
Just as an FYI, I repalced my stock 19-gal tank with the 39-gal one form LMC. The first one got punctured in a week. They sent me a second one, which already has a dent from that didn't go through the metal but has me nervous. My recommnedation is that if you use one of those tanks, you fab rivate a skid plate to cover the bottom.
From your picture it's an OEM mid ship tank .. The only source for the mounting hardware is going to be used and shipping probably is going to be pricey if you can find the hardware .. So local junkyard or local fabricator .. From the picture below it doesn't look like it would be that difficult to fab something that would function as good or better than the original .. Just paint it good with some epoxy primer and black paint so you don't have to worry about it for a long while .. You should have options on the rear tank also to increase fuel capacity .. There should be a 19 gal. rear tank for your truck unless you have a highboy chassis .. Does your frame have a cross member at the very front of the frame .. If so then it's a highboy chassis .. Post back with your chassis ID results .. I see you live in Colo. give this guy a call if anyone is going to have the hardware he will https://fortcollins.craigslist.org/pts/4610578399.html
I've always wondered if it was indeed a highboy. Some say it isn't but its stock stance seems taller than others and we don't have wheels larger than originally equipped with. I'll have to check when the truck gets home from his work. I'm not sure the crossmember is up front but I'm eager to know. The hubby isn't too tech savvy thats why I'm doing the paperwork. Thanks for your help I'll keep you posted.
The parts you need have been obsolete for years. No dealer or obsolete supplier has any and, as far as I know, like Rich said, no one reproduces them either. As often as I see members looking for them, you think someone would be out there making them.
The only source right now is to find a good used one. And that's getting harder.
redroad I always thought that HB's never got that tank, only a in cab one? Maybe its a 77.5 ?
Yes your right about that 77&79F250 .. So that leaves the 19 gal. rear tank as an option and I know rockauto still has those and the mounting straps for like $100 .. You would still need the sending unit and filler hoses and tube ..
Like has been said with the carcass that's left any decent fab guy could make a nice skid plate mount from what's left ..
The rear tank is just an auxillary tank and I don't ever in the 20 years we've owned Grouch of putting more than 8 in that tank. However the bigger one does hold over 20. I'm going to have the hubby check the resources you've kindly provided and hopefully we will find one. Metal fabricators here are proud of their work. We have so many hotrodders they are used to a higher pay than most of you are used to. Thanks again.
