I have a 57 ford truck that I would like to install a 2011 ford mustang engine V8 with a 6 speed automatic transmission, my only concern is that I would like to have the shifter on the steering column, any tips or idea on how to do this
I don't think it can be done. Too many gear positions. Linkage would be a nightmare. I could be wrong. Why not cut a hole in the floor? Will it put shiftr under seat?
Linkage would be a struggle. Are you at the dreaming or doing stage?
Right now at the dreaming stage, I already installed a crown vic front suspenssion, my next thing is to pick up an engine the 2011 to 2014 mustang v8 is my choice 420 hp the only problem is I want it to be automatic and have the shifter on the steering column

I dont think so I just would like to have it on the steering column
I headed the same route, however, I'm still in the parts collection stage. (The wife also said I have to finish the '66 Mustang before tearing the truck down).
The short answer, yes it can be done.
The long answer: It won't be a walk in the park. Lokar has parts to help (cable brackets, etc), however you'll run into two main issues.
First and foremost, It's huge! Considering you've already done the crownvic front end, you're already close to the ground. You'll likely need to fab a trans tunnel.
The second hurdle is connecting the shift linkage like you want to. It can be done, but will take some (a decent amount) of fabrication work. I looked at this a bit and was going to attempt to move the shifter bracketing to the inside of the firewall. The difficult fab part will be making the positive stops for each shift position. Here I was thinking about using the up/down motion of the shifter and a spring to keep the trans in the selected gear.
As I said, I'm still in the parts collection stage and may change up the linkage as I figure out what works and what doesn't.
Worst case, is I can fake it with an electronic shifter that uses a linear activator instead of a cable.
Any way you handle it, keep us posted and good luck... it will be a bitch'in ride.
