i have have a 63 and i am putting a floor shifter in it i was wondering about the steering column how universal are they or will i just have to go mesure several center rods in order to switch out.

I am not sure how you are tieing in your steering issue with putting a floor shift in your truck. If your truck is a stick and has a shifter on the column, you can just disconnect the linkage at the end of your steering column as your floor shifter should come with appropriate linkage. You would also want to remove a pin that would hold your column stick shifter to get it out of the way, but you wouldn't necessarily have to change columns. Same thing if your truck is an automotic. However, if you are thinking also adding a new steering column, that is a separate issue and yes, you will need to take measurements if you are buying an aftermarket column as they tend to be sold in lenths. I am sure there are a ton of folks who could make suggestions on bone yard type columns.
