I have a 2006 Ford E 350 van with a 6.0 diesel. At various times when I attempt to start the engine, nothing happens, no crank, no noise. There are times that the start relay makes noises but still no cranking. When this happened one day, I changed out the start relay with another one and still no crank. Tried it about 10 minutes later and it started right up. Batteries are in excellent condition. I don't know what might be causing this intermittent problem, even after putting the shifter in and out of gear a number of times. Please help with any ideas that you may have. Thanks, Tom.

I see you posted this yesterday and nobody has offered any suggestions, I'll try this one.... I have a 99 gasser that did this a while ago and when all was said and done it was the big wire that connects to the solenoid on the starter, the end was corroded inside where the wire actually makes contact, new end and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps, it's all I have.
Thanks for the advice, What I need to do on this van is drop the batteries, they are located under the right side near the frame rails, difficult to access. I agree, it might be a bad connection at the starter or even an issue with the ignition switch. Am trying to locate a wiring diagram of my vehicle to check this out. Thanks, Tom.

Mine was right at the starter, it looked fine but the corrosion was INSIDE of the terminal end itself and was erratic ie:sometimes it worked fine and sometimes only with the Battery charger hooked to it on 50amp start mode.....very confusing to say the least, I even bought a NEW battery and it work fine for a few starts and then back to the same problem. The only way I found it was to have someone hold the key in 'start' position and I wiggled the wires on the starter and it made contact and started. Good luck these no start issues can be a tough find.
