I do my best to keep up with PM (preventive maintenance) but an EGR valve ain't an item for me to worry bout til it breaks. And even then, all the better as long as it's stuck closed. Never had a bit of trouble due to inop EGR.

Lots of EGR problem's back in the carburetor days. Not uncommon to clean 'em up often as a regular maintenance deal. These FI engines run so much cleaner I would imagine soot collecting on the innards is much less of a problem now...
