!!!Before you watch the video, let me address that my spark issue is probably the cap and rotor. (They both look pretty old) But same rule applies, what if i replace both and still nothing?
You need to connect the red/white plug of the ignition module to the existing harness in the truck.
Without power to the module in run, and power to the white wire while starting, the truck cannot run or retard spark while cranking.
Question. I know you have the green/ground/tach side of the coil going to the module but where do you have power TO the coil?
I have no idea man, I got in waay over my head on the swap, and i dont know what any of the wires do or go to. i just know on the end with the 2 clips that go to the coil that the distributor is hooked up, but the red/white wires from the module is hooked into a connector from the steering harness and the other connector from the module is connected to the wires that go all the way down to the distributor.. Note, i tried to crank it and it moved the rotor from the original place of the old distributor...... if i messed up the timing that bad will that cause it not to start?
Awesome. now there are two connectors on the hasness that slide on the positive and negative posts on the coil, one wire is red, the other is black and has a yellow stripe, which one goes to positive and which one goes to negative? Also, which steps do i take the test the wire back to the ignition switch? Thanks for all the help btw buddy
You still have the TFI E-coil wires connected.
Didn't your DSII harness come with a half circle "horseshoe" coil connector?
A duraspark coil has a red and a green wire.
The green (ground) wire goes to the module and triggers the coil to make spark.
The red (power) wire goes into the harness and comes to a splice where the starter bypass and the ballast resistor wire connect.
I think you need to unwrap the harness going into the cab.
Find the splice/connection between the thick red wire and thinner one that is powered while the starter is engaged.
Well, i took a piece of wire and wrapped it around on the positive side of my battery and took the other end and wrapped it on the positive post on the coil, NOW when i turn the key to ON position i get 9.6 Volts on my multimeter... Truck still didnt want to start. Its dark here so i cant really see to do a spark test with a screwdriver but it cranked like it has been all day.. no sound difference so im guessing its still not getting spark
With your DSII harness, is the ground side of the coil connected to the green wire entering the ignition module?
The module receives a pulse from the distributor through the orange and purple wires to trigger the coil.
You need to dig into the harness coming from the cab and find the proper power plug.
This will also likely have the wires for the oil and water senders.
