At this point, what difference does it make?

I agree on that, dumping before the front axle is just way to dronny for me, I'm probably gonna end up either getting a shop to run tailpipes the rest of the way back into duals of some sort or change out to a muffler that don't drone so bad the way it is now.

Something happened to me with this pipe arrangement that was totally unexpected. I had to make a flying trip to St. Louis a few days ago when it was 102* and the pipes got the gas in the rear tank so hot it boiled and the truck quit running. I thought the pump had conked out so I switched tanks back to the front (which was almost empty) and stopped for gas. When I got out I could smell gas and hear it boiling, and I mean BOILING! I got nervous and quickly pulled it away from the pumps and over to a corner of the lot and let it cool. After that it was fine till it got really hot on the way home and did it again. The front tank has shielding to prevent this, but the rear tank has none. This never happened before and may never happen again, but this winter when I have time I am going to put some heat shields on the pipes or something that will help keep the heat off the tank. Just thought you might want to know.

Any muffler shop should know better than that. I dont want to try to explain why its illegal to remove cats. Call the epa and ask them why joes muffler.shop can remove.a.cat. Im deginitely not for too much regulation from the gooberment concaerning "global warming" or most anything else. Just saying that is the law. If you have any yearly inspection it would most likely not pass. Even here in WV it will fail state inspection in my county.

Thats why if you want a no cat sound you gut the silly things and weld them in place so you can pass the visual. I'm just waiting for the day we all have to get actual cats to pass when they start running the sniffer up the tailpipes, boy oh boy would that be a horrible yet strangely funny sight. Then again I'd rather the government not try and pull that number anytime soon at all.

They have already pulled that in a lot of places. I am near DC in WV and grew up in northern VA. Fairfax county va has had emissions testing for a long time... Loudoun where I grew up started a few years after them and that was 10 yeats or more ago.

In my neck of the good old state of VA we still have no emissions testing at all, we heard allot of talk about it last year but no action. Sucks to hear your end has it, makes life way harder for us who just want a nice sounding truck.

I didn't read everything so if someone has said this already, woops.

Please keep the cat, catalytic converters do good things and have very few downsides. In your case the cat will function as a muffler if you remove everything else. Cut it off behind the cat if you like.

A modern 3-way converter will not impede any flow and will pass any sniffer test. Some states throw a hissie if a single replaces a dual setup, but that is only based on their ignorance.

Dump the antiquated factory cats. Install a modern hi-flow 3-way. All of us will breathe easier.

Do hi-flows provide any muffling to speak of?

Everything that effects the exhaust pulse will have a muffling effect. For example just a longer tailpipe or a bend in it will make it quieter.
