I drove my 250 while raining and when I retured home I notice a lot of mud and dirt on my running boards. This was coming from my front tires and most was where I step to get into the truck. I have the molded ones. I would like to know if anyone has installed mud flaps on their truck and which ones. I would like to keep the mud off the steps. Thanks and have a good day..
I bought a set of the molded plastic Ford ones through a dealer on eBay (user name "fmcparts32"). There are also several Ford dealer guys that post here and I'm sure one of them could sell 'em to you at a good price as well.
I wanted spash guards that were as unobtrusive as possible, but functional, and these work great! They seem to do a good job keeping the tire spray off of the side of my truck.
I also didn't want to drill holes in the sheet metal, and, because they are OEM, they used the existing holes in the fenders (I did have to drill holes in the plastic fender liners). The kit came with everything needed to do the install. I highly recommend them...
i went to a semi dealership, purchased 2 rubber tractor trailer mud flaps(36 inches), then cut them in half down the middle from top to bottom with a utility knife. i got some washers and bolts from the hardware store, drilled and mounted them. total cost was like twelve dollars for everything!!!! I let them hang about 2-3 inches from the ground on the front tires, 3-4 on the rear. this keeps just about all the stuff your tires shoot up off the entire truck - plus they are a hell of a lot cheaper than buying flaps this big from any store
I agree with Oppy and Edmo. The Ford flaps have the best coverage and no drilling in the sheet metal. If you want to protect the paint under the mud flaps find som 3M Scotchcal and cut it to fit under the flap. The ones I had on my 2001 F350 scratched the paint so I did this on my new truck. It is a pain to work with but well worth it.

I have the Summit Racing ones on 250 and they work great, except mud and sand will accumulate behind them in contact with the body. I suspected this would trap moisture and rub the paint. I was right. I just pulled them off in conjunction with the installation of new tires and there is some paint damage, rusting and wear behind them. These are also the ones you have to drill and, as suspected, a lot of the problems originated at the drilled holes.
I am curious if the OEM guys are having the same issues or if the design/fitment is better and prevents this.
I was thinking about going from the flaps to the fender flares and was looking for suggestions on paintable ones and if they help with spray and do they trap mud and sand.
I am running new TOYO 285's. They seem like very good tires out of the box.
I too went to the SEMI supply and got the big rig flaps. they are about $5us each and are easy to manipulate. We have em on the rear of our F350 crew Rescue truck.
