Hello everyone. I just joined the forum today. I just purchased a 1971 F-250 Highboy. The truck is a solid blue color. I was wondering if the FORD stamped on the tailgate from the factory was pained body color of if the letters would have been painted white? I am trying to keep this truck as stock appearing as possible. Any help will be appreciated.

White or black, I've seen them both ways on a blue truck.
Thanks for the welcome and the feedback. I assume someone sells a stencil pattern kit to paint the F O R D on the tailgate? Can someone let me know where to get one?

I don't recall anyone selling a stencil. However, each typical vendor (NPD, BOTP, Mac's, LMC Truck) sells decals for about $15. I don't recall if Dennis Carpenter Reproductions sells them
If ya want to paint them, head to your local auto color service and get some 3M fine line tape... there's the masking tape version and also the vinyl tape. The latter pulls and stretches nicely for curves. Get 18-inch wide masking paper (dull dark green) and 1.5-inch blue painters tape from Home Depot and have fun.
For the price though, it's hard to beat the decals.
