The paint on my 66 is original and is, for the most part, in good shape. I plan to leave the paint as is but I do plan to repaint the two bumpers, the wheels and hubcaps, possibly the grill and maybe the "FORD" letters on the tailgate.
The tailgate is presentable but has red "FORD" letters. Is this a possibility as far as being an original color combo on my tan truck?
FWIW...the red paint is faded and looks like it's been there forever. That doesn't preclude the possibility that someone painted the letters red a long time ago.

More than likely it came that way from the factory. The letters were usually white or red, I think. The red matches the red in the emblem on the hood and on the twin-i-beam badges on the fenders, perhaps even the FORD on your hubcaps is red. My truck is Wimbledon white and also has red letters on the tailgate.
