I finally had a little time to clean up the truck some. First I cleaned the leaves and trash out of the bed, 2 LARGE bags full. The bed floor is good and solid with some light surface rust. Today I sprayed it down with some bleach and pressure washed the mildew off of it.. along with some of the paint.
I went to a buddy's shop today and got to talking with him about the truck and what I want to do with it. He has been looking for one for along time and has one lined up. But he want to put his on a Crown Vic frame, the good news there is the one he is getting has the original everything.. SCORE for me...
Dug up some pictures of my old 66 ( Dad says it was a 65) It did have a 66 Grill though.
I was a "rat rodder" before it was cool.. When this picture was taken it had a 350 Pontiac engine and automatic trans. I know, I know, but it was CHEAP and Lord that old mule would FLY...
Haven't been able to do much with the Ole' Mule due too getting ready to work and house issues... Wouldn't life be great, if all we had to do was play with our toys??
Any how I did score some old school wide steelies off craigslist. I traded the wheels that were on the truck (after I polished them, UGH).
New wheels, the fronts are about 8.5 inches wide and the backs are just over 10 inches wide.
After some (several hours) of sand blasting ( they had at least 8 coats of several different colors on them)
Primed or painted, I can't tell.. I painted them Hammered Silver. The plan is to run dog dish hubcaps and beauty rings. I just can't decide on which hubcaps to use yet.
Only have 4 more wheels to do... I used heavy duty paint stripper to remove most of the paint and some skin.
This stuff is BAD news, please be careful if you use it.
OUCH!!! Looks like a pair of long rubber gloves may be in your future! Nice looking replacement rims though.
I had long rubber gloves on. I got a little on my right arm, when I went to pull the glove off I slung some from the brush on to my left arm.. Forgot all about the little bit on my right arm.
However, the 10" wheels you intend to install on the rear look to have minimal backspacing..... I hope they don't rub on the outer wheel well.... You'll know when you put a tire on them and try to bolt them under it.
I'd suggest you put some aloe on that chemical burn.
The burn (chemical) cleared up pretty quick, the aloe gel worked. LOL
I had 60 series tires on widen wheels on my old 66 when I was a kid. I also had 10x31's on it for a while. I'm going to put the old tires back on for the time being, as it will be a while before the truck sees the road. But hopefully I can squeeze at least a 60 series under the back. I would like 60's in the front and 50's in the back, but will have to see.
I like the start to your journey with your new truck project. I always end up getting stuck with buying the ones without brakes haha they ran but never stopped. When it comes to tires I always go for the filling the wheel wells look. always makes it stand out I'm a fan of smoothies and beauty rings

Ya jinxed me....
Seriously though, it appears the rear end may have been changed to a wider one. I haven't measured it yet, but the is a lot of space between the leaf spring and the backing plate. Also the passenger side of the bed is bent in a bit.
Plenty of clearance on the front.
I like the stance and I will figure out how to tuck the rear tires in the fender wells.
I had time to work on the truck some this weekend due to all the rain, UGH. Any how I tried to polish some of the bright work, not satisfied. There are a lot of scratches, dents and either some kind of coating or sun damage that won't polish out.
Does anyone know where I can get the bright work professionally refinished? Without taking a second mortgage? I really want to use as much of the original parts as I can, the less Chinese the better.
So I decided to pull the seat and floor mat. My best bud wanted to help.
And got a look at the floors. Its a little worse than I thought but still repairable. I would like to get a whole floor pan. Any ideas? I have searched, but no luck.

The trim work" head light rings" are anodized coated aluminum. You will have to get that coating off before you can work on the dents and scuffs. I soaked mine in some purple cleaner that I use on my shop floor, look up on the internet on ways of doing it. Once fixed you can have it re anodized or keep then polished.
