African F100, need help.
Hi there, a note from the other side of the world. I am thinking of buying a F100 (1955) 272. Never had an old Ford before. Had 2 old 356 Porsches (great cars!). Now this kind of car is something I have always enjoyed looking at so I ran into one which seems genuine. Needs a little TLC but than again who doesn't...
Got a few questions which I am sure you think of, 'how can he ask this...'
What is a proper version worth? Please understand that in South Africa, Ford only started building the F series from the second generation. And yes, it is right hander.
Reason for asking is that I learned buying a 356 (after I paid for it...) what models are in demand and which not. From a collectors point of view... Look a nice 356 is always worth something and I'm sure that counts for the F100 as well.
It is as original as they come. No mods in the sense of powersteering, suspension, etc.
What do I really need to check before I transfer my money?
Are there South African Forum members?
Any other tips?
Thanks and if I can be of any help to you, please let me know.

My Uncle had an International about the same vintage that had handles like those on the tail gate, maybe it was an after market option.
Great Truck.
It is never easy to place a value on these things, value is in the eyes of the beholder. Here is my opinion, take it for what it is worth. I would say $15 -25 thousand USD. Depending on milage, documentation and quality of restoration. If it has very low milage, great documentation, the correct color scheme, etc. perhaps it could go higher than 25K.
As far as value of the years we deal with (48-60), there can be lots of debate on this one, but it seems to me that the 1956 is the most valuable, 53-55 are next, then 48-52 and 57-60 follow them. I am sure someone may have a sllightly different opinion, but that is the way I see it.
Best of luck

Nice looking truck though. I wish we could find them that clean hear. Snow, rain, and salt rust ours out. In the states I would guess as clean as that looks, $5000.00 or even higher. Someone with more knowledge that me will be along shortly to give a better estimate. How much are they asking for the truck converted to
American dollars of course?

Oh, the one modification it does have is is that it is now a 12 V. I actually like that so you actually jump start them, connect a radio, etc. I remember my 356 was a 6V, ai, ai, ai.... Other than the price guys, what should I look out for? Rust spots, what is a known spot for these trucks. Anything else? Appreciate your help so far. Does anybody know if there are SA forum members?

It appears that truck has been restored....do you know how long ago?
The normal rust problems occur at the rear cab corners, at the bottom of the fenders where the running boards attach and over the headlights and the front lip of the hood. Take a small magnet and check these areas for bondo. If they were repaired properly then it should have been with new metal patches, not heavy bondo.
The $8500 USD sounds like a fair price if it is not full of bondo.
