hey all, just a curious question, if i cant get the current 5.4 in my 02 f150 back from the dead i was thinking of doing an engine replacement, and was wondering, i know it falls into a newer category but would the superchargerd 5.4 out of an 04 lightning model fit and work properly in my 02 lariat?
It would not be a drop in as far as operation because the PCM control is not the same.
The extra super charge control and harness would be missing and PCM programming would be missing.
Ignition timing curve, and fuel control is different for higher cylinder pressure generated by a blower and fuel grade may need to go to 91 octane.
Then there is the PATS to get to work. That would involve dealer reprogram expense if you could get them to do it. Then if it did not work then what would you do? The dealer has no responsibility to warrant or work out any issues on a conversion.
Conversion has been done if you want to learn and hassle with it and it's worth it to you to do re-engineering.
You would start by using as much from the donner truck as possible to reduce the hassle..
Good luck.
