Dipstick trouble

Hey y'all. I purchased a 1992 f350 7.3 IDI a few months back and the previous owner replaced the valve cover gaskets and didn't reseat the oil dipstick correctly and it won't read my oil level. It has constantly poured white smoke. I did an oil change 2500 mi ago. And I tried reseating the dipstick the other day still can't check oil level and it's still pouring white smoke. Any help and advice would be great.

there is a seal on it, I use rtv to seal up the bottom of the tube to the block

Another good sealant is the motorcraft stuff. It is a pain to get off too. I know a coue of mechanics that use it on everything
