Sounds to me like your temperature readings are coming from the factory temp sensor, and in that case your readings are well within the right range. No idea why they would be higher than you were seeing, but 180° isn't anything to be concerned about.

It might, but it won't blink for overheating until 270F. It will also blink for about 50 other things. You need to get the codes read to find out what's wrong. The places that read codes free cannot read these codes.

Well thanks for the info. Now to start research on that light.
You dont know that yet. The light was blinking. It could blink for many things, one being overheating of 270+. You were puking fluid. I wouldnt think a trans at normal operating temps would puke fluid for no reason. Get the codes checked and then come back. I still think those temps you posted were bogus, imho. Just dont want to give a false sense of security, get the codes checked to start learning some more of what happened.
