Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
). On Edit: I guess you do too many good things on FTE (in my opinion) as I'm still in Rep prison for ya' Money... Sorry.2nd: Georgia8er: the Trans Temp does not come up initially with the correct info for the gauge to work correctly, you need to edit the PID and put TCM in the ODBII Header line, otherwise you are reading coolant temp.... Let us know if you make that change, do you still get a value in your real time gauge? Is there a TCM for a manual trans??
-- Be nice to know for those with a manual trans what temps they run at... I really wouldn't believe it if it tracks with coolant temp...3rd: Money: I for the life of me don't understand how the cam/crank and FICM sync. gauges can be different, do you know or have you researched it? the PIDs are the same, everything is the same other than the equation being A is 1 for the one gauge or 0 for the other gauge. Weird, but it'd be neat to know they do work and in fact could tell you which wasn't sync'ing.
4th: someone mentioned 6 gauges per dash screen. Not true, it depends on how big a gauge you use is all! Just wanted to clear that up for those thinking it was a limitation of Torque (it's a limitation of your eye sight and brain!).
5th: a couple other neat things Torque does: Besides reading ODBII codes (and telling you what they are in english), you can reset them! I helped a friend out with an F150 and a CEL set with this feature (the code never came back for an O2 sensor). And one of the BEST features I have found (next to alarms): Data Logging!! You set up what you want to log, start it at whatever point you want in your journey and simply check the log file over with excel (what I use) and look for other maybe odd things after your trip -- just can be hours of fun!

A tip from me: I bought a cheap Tablet to migrate Torque to for long trips (more big gauges for weak eyes), but it lacks GPS and Torque keeps complaining about it. So while Bluetooth can be optional if you are willing to go hardwire or WiFi ODBII adapter (other options for you guys if you didn't know that), the GPS is something I wished I'd held out for. When you are looking at your data log for example, you know you were going up that steep grade, etc.... Another tip: if you register your new or next Android device to your same Google account, the Apps you bought once are now free on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. device! Couple tidbits I thought I could contribute....
GREAT JOB!!

What followed is a bit of a blurr...

I hadn't updated the app for awhile since we moved and couldn't get my phone to sync with our new wi-fi router (I have it set to only update apps when on wi-fi). So I just did that over Cell.
Then I plugged the tablet and my phone into my laptop, saved some dash board screens and then used the laptop to copy them to the tablet. On the tablet I saw that several gauges were labeled wrong, so I made sure it had the Ford specific PIDs loaded. There is a possibility that I re-loaded the Ford PID set on my phone somewhere in there (as in: wondering what new did the Torque guys add?). My guess is that was a BIG NO-NO, as I think it replaced my existing PID file
.I had my phone unplugged from my laptop, but a bunch of gauges were now "dead". I think it is all the ones that had been created from scratch, plus any that had been edited -- I mean even the names go away so you are left saying what the...?! I even tried connecting to the truck to see if that would help it "remember", or next re-loading the dashboard screens.
No luck.
So the lesson here is:
1) don't do too many things at once so you aren't sure what you did wrong.
2) don't re-load the Ford specific PID set after you have created and modified new PIDs (my guess as to what happened).
3) don't try hooking several devices together and start copying things around between them (at least I won't).
Money: I used this thread to re-build my phone's truck dashboard -- still doubt I can rep you... But thanks

By the way, for those that have never done this, you can copy your dashboard screens and give or get them from others. Here is how:
In your real-time screen you want to share, you hit Menu, select Layout Settings, select Export Dashboard and it will have you name it. You can do this for each screen, I've seen where some screens get combined, but it still works out if you bring them back by:
On the target Droid: while in Torque and in Real time, you go to the screen you want to "drop" your copied dashboard screen, then hit Menu, Layout Settings and Import, then you will see a list of screens to choose from, select the one you want and it is brought in.
Here is the Important Middle Step (IMS): Connect your Droid device to a PC (maybe a Mac can do this, IDK), use Explorer to find the .torque folder and in that You'll see a Dashboard folder and in there you'll find the screen(s) you Exported. You need to copy them to the target Droid in the same location.
You can also email them as an attachment, stick 'em on a chip, however you want...
Pretty cool stuff, as long as you don't do what I did

Most of my gauges came across to the tablet, but they are SOOOOO Small on it!!! Oh well, teach me to mess with stuff right before a trip...
I'm going to put together some videos and instructions on how to get Torque Pro, how to add gauges, and how to use the app on your phone/tablet. I do not know everything about Torque Pro, so hopefully other people will add to this thread. I mainly use it to monitor several gauges at a time while on long trips. Currently, Torque Pro is only available for Android devices, and it will not work with Apple products.
You will need:
Torque Pro app - $ 4.95
Android phone or tablet - $ varies
OBD2 bluetooth adapter - $20-25
There are some OBD2 bluetooth adapters that work and some that don't. Maybe some people can list what has/hasn't worked for them.

I use the BAFX adapter bought at Amazon, pictured below. (Some people don't like the crazy blinking light show it puts out, never bothered me, but if it ever did, I'd put some electrical tape over the lights.)
Amazon link to it... Robot Check

Below is a video on how to get Torque Pro on your Android device, and some general info about setting it up. EDIT: I apologize for the crappy video quality...you can count the hairs on my knuckles, but the tablet screen is blurry

Below is a video on adding gauges to make your custom display. I also show how to create the "delta" gauge, to show the difference between your coolant and oil temps. (bear with me on the video, I was doing this on a tablet that I no longer use, and I had issues trying to remember wtf to do.) EDIT: once again, I apologize for the crappy video quality

Once you have all the gauges you want set up in Torque Pro, you may want to create audiable alarms for some, or all of your gauges. This is a very nice feature....such as if you're in heavy traffic or any reason you don't want to take your eye off the road to glance at the gauges. You can set a high or low alarm. (you can't have both a high and low alarm on the same gauge) An example of a low alarm is if you want to be alarmed if your FICM main power dropped to 46 volts or less .....a high alarm would be good on ect/eot deltas, or maybe boost over 28 psi, etc.
FUTURE.... Video below shows how to set up audible alarms
which flips the screen and mirrors it. This allows you to simply lay the tablet on the dash(on a sticky mat, if ya like) and read the gauges reflection on the windshield....
Havent tried it yet...
FWIW- Ive Had Torque Pro since It was a $20 APP, and its been worth every penny even at that price...
