Seat Question

I removed my beautiful seat to adjust and lube the tracks and found out why the seat won't adjust any longer. The "Seat track tie rod" is completely missing.
Is that a replaceable part or can I just make one out of a rod.
cheers

Looks like I'll have to use some of that ole "Yankee Ingenuity" or find another seat!

I guess I could just set both sides all the way back as that would work fine for me. I guess if I had to move it I could reach under the passenger side and manually pull the little leaver to slide it. I'll be the only one driving it anyway.

Thanks for the bad news!
Cheers

The measurements for the wire under your seat are, 5/64 thick, 37 5/8 long bend to bend. It has a "U" bend on one end and carb style double 90 on the other. These are the dimensions off the seat rod from my 66 F100.

OK, I'll start with a 5/64 rod about 4'. Sounds great. I even have a set of Z-Bend Pliers for one end.
For about 3 bucks I think this is the least expensive fix yet.
I need more 3 buck fixes!
Cheers & Beers for the help

Bailing wire works good and its not like anybody looks under your seat very often.

Re-bar tie-wire works. Way less than $3!

I might take a shopping spree to local salvage yard and check out number of items of interest to include later model truck seats; although, the seats are slightly wider should be able to salvage then cut to shorten and well a replacement. Anyhow, food for thought??

I was thinking about that, I think I need a more orthopedic seat from a newer truck for my aching bones!

After 40 plus years backside wore a hole in the upholster and fabric and rubbing against the springs so decided to upgrade to later model seat to 87 Lariat w/ the lower profile and contoured seats. Got the impression your current seat are in very good condition so after few years may find they break-in. In shopping for replacement, found the 67 thru 72 set too high and not that comfortable, typical vintage bench seat.

I do need an upholstery job done on it. It has the original under a raunchy looking cracked cover but they are both done for.

The foam and springs are all there and the springs are still good the PO was a small guy so he didn't wear out the springs. But the foam is dried out. I was thinking of one of those kits that are all sewed up with the foam and everything like original and it slips over the frame and is attached with hog rings. But they are a couple hundred bucks or more.
The old cruise through Pick-N-Pull and find a real nice seat for less than 50 bucks sounds good also. I'd probably find a nice comfortable one.
I think I found a cheaper fix for the rod, I found an old CB antenna about 48" long I can bend and make work and it's free and it's made out of stainless steel what a bargain!

Cheers

Believe it or not I removed two layers of silver duct tape that was all dried out and ugly looking. That was also covered by a seat cover that was falling apart.

Cheers
