Im doing the front disk brake conversion on my truck. I found a 78 f100 at the junk yard, only thing is it did not have a power booster. I want to put a power booster in, but want to make sure i use the proper master cylinder. Will the old master work if I buy a booster, or do I need to replace the cylinder?
Ford used different M/C between power and non-power disc brake systems. I don't know if it's bore size only or rod depth in the back of it and/or mounting ears different also. Orich knows I believe. Seems like somebody else recently got a non-power M/C mounted to a bosster but had some kind of trouble. I don't remember what. I'd get a power one and be done with it if it were me.

The boosters come in different sizes like in 73 & up used like a 10+" ones, where as the 67-72 was up to about 8-" ones.
Using the 73-79 you'll have to used the 73-79 pedals setup as the booster has a different throw and sets the booster linkage won't bolt up the early brake pedal.
A non power brake MC will not work with PB Booster.
What size is your booster ? or what yr. a of vehicle did it come off of?
orich

It came off a 78 f100, i grabbed the link from the MC to the pedal, but did not take the pedal. As for the booster, it did not have one, so my guess would be a 10".
1973/79 F100/350: There are TWENTY TWO different brake pedals, NINETEEN different master cylinders, SEVENTEEN different power brake boosters and SEVEN different clutch pedals, I kid you not!
Whatever master cylinder and booster you use, MUST match the brake (and clutch) pedals.
1968/72 F100/350: There is only ONE brake and clutch pedal. 1967 F100/350's use different parts than 1968/72.
Thanks ND, looks like I'm taking another run to the junkyard. Im going start another thread for this project, and I'll take lot of pics, cause I'm positive I'll have lots of questions later as well.
Or you can go aftermarket for booster & master and fab your own linkage.
I doesn't have to be complicated
I'm going to put '77 spindles and discs on my '72 and I'll use an aftermarket 8" dual diaphragm booster, a factory '77 master cylinder and an aftermarket disc/drum proportioning valve.
I need to use a small diameter booster to clear the tall Blue Thunder valve covers.
