Ecoboost overheat

Curious if anyone has found a solution to the F150 ecoboost overheating issue. I have 2013 ecoboost max tow. Last summer and this summer if I climb a long hill, the temps rise and I have to back way out to let it cool off. Dealer still says Ford has no solution. Feel like I am chasing my own tail on this one. I tow about 9000lbs so well within my tow ratings.

I love the truck in every other way. Great power. Decent mileage for having the max tow. And comfortable.

Ours is not a truck, but never have an overheating issue, even here in texas...

only towed my utility trailer and lawn tractor with it once, so not a big load to test...

good luck, maybe add water injection for those few times you need it ?

give these guys a call to see what would be right for you --> http://www.snowperformance.net/ford-...l-other-models

Did the truck cut back on power, or did the dummy gauge just peg?
What trans temps were you seeing during these pulls with that weight behind you?

Trans temp always stays between 205 to 225. The dummy gauge pegged and then the notice of reducing power to cool engine come on. I also am able to watch the temp with a scanner and the engine hit 240 when the reducing power notification came on.

Seems like you've got a good eye on it. What speeds and grades are you pulling?

It is a max of 7% grade. I think it goes for about 7 miles. I pull it at 65 mph. The truck pulls it very well, It seems like the last mile is when it finally gets hot. Gauge doesn't move then once it does it climbs quick.

7% for 7 miles is a GOOD CLIMB. I hate to say it, but you may need to bring the MPH down 5-10 on that pull.

I would look for boost leaks, bugs clogging the rad flow, and change the thermostat to a 170, 240 is hot even in a diesel. Thermostat could be not opening all the way.

It's too bad they are not mechanical gauges. It's seems like the electronic one don't react until it's almost too late. It would also be nice to keep an eye on boost and EGT. Important things with turbocharged engines as far as I'm concerned.
I know you said your truck has Max tow package. But there are some different option levels up to the 11300 lb trailer weight. Have you done the calculations to find out if your truck is near its maximum trailer weight? There is a chart from Ford and you look it up based on you model, axle ratio & engine.
Mine is a 2013 screw 4x4, eco and 5 1/2' box. Max tow pkg with 3.73 eld axle and the chart says biggest trailer loaded for me is 9460 lbs.
Bigger rating would come with 4.10 axle and 6.2 engine.
If I were in your shoes I might look at a higher performance water pump (if anyone makes one) or perhaps bigger radiator. (also big job with an ecoboost)
Your might find the parts you need through Ford racing?
Let us know how it turns out.

I have a 2011 3.6 ecoboost and can't pull our 19ft camping trailer without the truck overheating. It overheats and I slow down for about two miles - then its okay and then speed back up for five ten miles and then overheats again. All the gauges show it overheating and the dash all goes read with overheat warning. Five dealerships later and know one has a clue. I changed the thermostat and cleaned the radiator on the outside - sprayed all the dirt out - still overheats.

I've had 10k lbs on my 2013 in 100+ degree weather through hills and wind and hauled my 35' trailer through the mountains of NM and CO and the engine temp never budged. Sounds like something isn't flowing right or there is an underlying issue other than the engines cooling system. Water Wetter or a higher ratio of water vs antifreeze might help.

Now 7 miles at 7%....not sure I've been on a slope that steep for that long at that speed.

Any solutions?

2112 f150 max tow package. 80k miles. Had exhaust manifold replaced, broken studs. Now is overheating when pulling5th wheel (7800 lbs) going over passes. Didn't do it before. But cools down in seconds. Too fast to have the engine COOL down that fast. If I go into manual 3rd gear it doesn't overheat, by doing 40mph. Any ideas out there? Dealer is stumped. Checked fans, thermostat, etc.
