I recently purchased an '08 F250 and joined the diesel family. My question is I'm hearing a lot about letting turbos unspool before shutting the truck off. Being that my gauge is analog, is there a time frame of how long it takes to unspool? Or is this not even required on the 6.4?
its more so alowing the turbo to cool down after working it some guys wait for their EGTs to get so low some guys have a built in timer that allows them to run for a few mins after they pull the key. main thing is after working it hard not to shut it off instantly.
All I ever did was park the truck if running empty. By the time you pull into the neighborhood and park it is enough.
Towing is a different matter. When towing I would not shut the truck off all day, even when fueling. Under the hood gets very hot. Even the fenders feel hot if you are towing heavy.
In order to shut it down then it needs to idle 5-10 minutes for the EGT's to get below 400F.
