Autometer gauge install???

I have two questions.......

First, where can I buy a T tap fitting for my boost gauge? Do I have to order it from Autometer or can I pick it up at a hardware store like Home Depot? It's seems a little pricey to pay $30-$40 for the plastic fitting.

Second, my Autometer Trans temp sender has a 1/2" fitting and is way to big to fit in the driver side plug where everyone recommends. Is there any other place I can place it?

Thanks

Autometer gauge install???

I was in the same boat u were with the T-fitting. A buddy of mine told not to order the boost gaue kit because i could find the fitting in town somewhere. Well, we looked and looked and never could find one. So i had to spend the money and get the Autometer boost kit. Go ahead and spend the money and get the kit, u will also get more hose in the kit which will be better too.
As for the trans sensor, all i can think of is u have tried the wrong hole. Make sure you are trying to install it in the correct hole. The drivers side is the correct side to install the sensor. Good luck and let me know what u find.

Well, I was able to find the kit online for $15. Is that a good price? What did you pay?

As far as the trans sensor goes, I was told you can put it either on the driver side plug or remove the drain plug and put it there. No way the plug that came with the gauge will fit in the driver side plug. The bolt around the sensor is way to big. Was your gauge an autometer? I'm thinking that different companies have a different size plug. Let me know.............

Autometer gauge install???

ryanben:

I'm going to install a pyrometer and boost gauge tomorrow in my 99 F350. I bought the t fitting from diesel injection service for around the price you quoted. I ordered an Autometer mechanical boost gauge, and it did have the capillary tube and brass fittings with the kit. The DIS kit gives you the t connector and adapter to hook onto the capillary tube, as well as the brass fitting at each end of the tube and 2 clamps. Personally, the DIS fittings are already palced on there, and they're on pretty good and tight. The Autometer brass fittings require you to slip a small fitting over the hose and slides loose. In essence, you're spending $15 for the t fitting, 2 extra clamps, and adapter. To me it seems worth it rather than going around and trying to find each little part individually. $15 sounds about right.

Yes my gauges are Autometer. I dont understand why u got the wrong sensor for that plug, that seems really odd. My guess would be to call Autometer and see if they sent u the wrong setup for your truck.

The sensor seems to be the right size, it's the bolt around the sensor that seems to large. A 1/2 inch bolt I believe. Also I can't imagine all vehicles having the same size threads to receive the bolt and sensor. When I bought the gauge it doesn't ask about which type of vehicle it is going on.

Well I called Autometer and found out the problem. I bought a mechanical trans temp gauge and they said I should have bought the electrical gauge. They say the sensor probe is much smaller on the electrical gauge.

Autometer gauge install???

I just installed an autometer trany temp gauge on mine they make a nice gauge. I preferred the 270 deg sweep so I stuck with the mechanical one. They are a ½ inch fitting so I put mine on the pressure line coming out of the trany. They make a manifold block for just this purpose but they are $40 ouch! So I just bought a ½ brass pip tee fitting and 2, 3/8 hose fitting that screw into each end and a piece of hose at the hardware store. Took the tee and spliced it in under my radiator it, works fine Cost $6.50.

I don't remember the name of the company where I purchased the kit. I just went online and did a search for "AUTOMETER INSTALLATION KIT". A bunch of different companies sell the kits.
