Looking for tires for a 1979, F250, 460, automatic, 8 Lug.
The truck currently has 225/75/16, the truck is going to be used for on road driving, for hauling, and putting boats in the water. Looking for an all around AT. Rims are 16x6 (I think)
First off 245 isn't the width, its the height. The 2 digit number is the width. 265/75/16's are easy to find in load D ratings. Those 225's are kind of small. I'm not sure what stock was but you could get better milaged with a slightly bigger tire. BFGoodrich AT's are excellent tires. There quiet, wear a long time, drive great, and looks good too.
The 225 is the tire width in millimeters, measured from the bottom of the bead to the bottom of the bead, the 75 is the sidewall aspect ratio, the ratio of sidewall height to tire width at the tread (indicating that the sidewall height is 75% of the tread width), and the 16 is the wheel rim diameter in inches.
Correct, the first number is the width, the second number is sidewall aspect ratio, and third is, of course, wheel diameter. If your wheels are only 6" then a 245/75 is even going to be pushing it just a little, but should be OK. A 265/75, while it may actually fit on the rim, is recommended for at minimum a 7" rim.
Go to www.tirerack.com and click on "search your tire size". There were 78 tires that came up in a 245/75/16. Even if you have no intention of buying online, it's a good place to do some research.
