Just pulled some codes off of my 1991 F350 7.5L. I was wondering what code 81 meant, been getting some different answers searching around the internet. Was hoping to get some good answers and explanations.
Code 81 has different definitions depending on when it was displayed. My Online reference shows this code as a KOEO or CM code, hence the reason why there are two definitions.
Code 81 (KOEO) Air Management 2 (AM2/TAD) circuit failure
Code 81 (CM) MAP sensor vacuum was not greater than 2 in-Hg (7 kPa) during normal vehicle operation.
My Ford service manual shows Code 81 as KOEO only.
So in order to troubleshoot this we need to know when your Code 81 was displayed.
I do not have a good photo to guide you, but the easiest thing to check is to verify someone has not disconnected the the TAB/TAD solenoid(s). Your truck may have only the TAD. Sometimes you will see a reference to AIRB/AIRD...same thing.
Anyway it's a solenoid to activate the AIR injection system for various modes of operation. Usually located on top of the intake manifold.
Thanks for your insight. The only thing I'm a bit confused on is after checking AllData, it says that there is no code 81 for my year and engine size. Could this just be a flaw with AllData?
