ECT LIGHT
Hey guys,
On my way home I got the "wrench". The truck did sound like the belt was squealing and the truck felt like injectors were misfiring. I lost power and did "limp home". Once home i shut the truck off, and after a few minutes attempted to restart and its acting like the batteries are dead. Before the "wrench" came on the stereo was acting like my alternator was shot. I've replaced my alternator twice before and never had it throw the "wrench" so I don't think the alternator is the problem child. I have a 06 6.0 with an EGR delete kit. I bought the EGR delete kit from FCDP and installed it myself, and at the same time I replaced my oil cooler. The turbo was replaced 11 months ago. Has anyone experienced anything like this before or know what it could possibly be before I take it to the dealer for a diagnostic? Thanks!!

Sounds like something seized up if your belt started squeaking and you're having slow cranks. What's your batteries voltage at when cranking?
Also try to spin all pullies freely with the tensioner held back to give belt slack or belt being off

Sounds like the alternator died....again. (alternator bearings seized up?) Charge the batteries, see if it will start. If it starts, check voltage at alternator output terminal. What kind of alternators are you buying?

Sound like you may have more than one issue going on unless low battery voltage was causing trouble with the trucks computer.

update
After starting her back up after a good charge, I read the voltage coming out of the alternator At first I was reading 9.32V and after a few minutes of running it dropped down to 8.2. This alternator came from Orielys.

Should get 14.4 to 14.8 volts at first start up, definitely need an alternator. You want something bigger than Reilly's. There are options, you need to look into these or kep throwing money at alternators. Does your AC compressor turn free with belt off? Need to look into these other things, just in case. Belt good, idler pulley good?

HUH??? With THAT low of voltage, how in the hell were you ablve to spin the engine even close to fast enough for it to fire, let alone get it running? In my experience, the PCM will shut down at anything less than 9.5 volts. I know this is because my IDS will lose communication with the PCM when the voltage decreases to those numbers.

9v is pushing the lower limit of building enough PSI.

alright gentlemen, just pulled my out my alternator, it got extremely hot and melted the plastic around the connector. its under warranty just requires a little time sweat and beer. more to come tomorrow. Thank guys!
