anybody have any ideas to keep water out but plenty of air going in? I have a 83 bronco I-6 carberated and just tinkering with ideas for a snorkle or hood scoop that will keep out the water and improve HP over stock. You guys are all over the place with your approaches to problems I figure you have created many effective and unique solutions. cant wait to see what you have come up with. if possible include pics and possible sources for any nessary supplies. Thanks
thanks for the pic I am thinking of getting a square type filter box out of a car or truck at the wreckers the kind that have a front inlet and a top exit and mounting it backwards on the passenger fender wall. and running pvc up like in the pic but passengerside, and then flexible dryer vent (metal) onto the carb. and then I can use stock filters (from whatever I find for the box) I not sure but I think the filter boxes have a deflector inside to keep out rain water and If it is near my roof it wont get submerged unless I am swimming. how does this sound?
I am making one shortly that uses an Edelbrock air cleaner housing mounted to the roof of the cab, with a street flange and 4"pvc pipe going through the cab and under the truck to an airbox, then a throttle body adaptor from a Dodge v-8. I figure that if I drill a hole in the pvc at the lowest point, and cover it with a rubber flap, I can drain rainwater out, and not have to worry about too much comeing in.
Some of the 90s V8 cadillacs have a carb snorkel adapter that is 3 1/2 on the inlet and fits the standard four barrel. there are a lot of sites on the web that sell hump hose couplings, adapters, reducers etc and in colours. and there is a site that sells aluminum tube 3 ", 3 1/2", 4" and larger by the peice either four or eight foot I don't remember. I've got some of the addresses at work but I think one of them was texisexhaust.com or something like that
I believe I took the adapter off of a 92 caddy V8, There are a couple of other GM throttle bodies that had them also but caddies are the only ones I know for sure. I just went to a yard that had a bunch of late model caddies and looked for one of the front wheel drive V8 models, they used a "low profile intake configuration to keep the hood line low, I paid fifteen for it which is a lot cheaper than the aftermarket ones on line.
Another place I forgot about when looking for rubber and tubing for snorkels is a truck and equipment salvage sometimes you can even find Donaldson type air cleaners small enogh for your truck but my luck has always been to find piles with giant truck filter units and those little bitty ones used on little four bangers and nothing in between.
