Proformer plus cam

I have my 390 out and would like to add a better cam shaft. I still have the stock non adjustable rockers and hydraulic lifters wich a can't afford to change at this time I also have the stock log manifolds. Has any one used the etdelbrock proformer plus. How does it run and idle. Any better than stock http://m.summitracing.com/parts/edl-2106 I'm worried it may be a little to mild but from what I have heard that's about as big as you can go on stock rockers? Any opinions or suggestions

I'm not familiar with that specific cam.

However, my truck has what appears to be the factory, stamped rocker arms. The engine also has a rather radical idle cam in it. With that I would expect the rocker arms would not be the limiting factor. Spring rates however could be.

If it were me I would wait till you can afford an intake and headers.
No reason to throw a cam in if it can't get the engine to breath.
Those stock exhaust logs are horrible things.
Your rockers are not a problem.
Might wanna replace the springs since you're prolly gonna wing it up in rpm with a new set up. But for normal driving ( lets say to 4500 rpm) without beating it up your springs will work.
Restraint required.

The 2106 is the complementary cam and lifters for the dual plane Edelbrock 2105. Will work with stock valve springs if they're in decent shape. Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Advertised Duration 272/282, Lift .460/.480.

Suited for better low-to mid-range torque.

95401 is outta Santa Rosa, CA.

Woohoo
Then run it and have fun.
That cam may lope a little when it's cold, then smooth out.

Yes 95401 is Santa Rosa the guy at the mechine shop I do business with said that he likes the engine pro cam http://enginepro.com/downloads/newdata/EPG_CamShafts.pdf the bigger one out of the two is the one he uses a lot my two concerns are 1 . That power band is really narrow (2000-4500) 2. What will the power be like after 4500 will it just fall on it's face ?

Really, with a mild truck engine with stock exhaust manifolds why do you care after 4500?

Because there's still more to go after 4500. It never hurts to know. Most cams that have a power band that start at 2000 end around 6000. Curious why this is so narrow

My 390FE screams for mercy at 4500 RPM and tells me it's time to shift. Observe your speed range btwn 2nd and 3rd and 3rd and 4th through the cam's RPM range and you'll see what we mean...

Torque is the name of the game on the street and offroad. It is what gets thse heavy beasts off the line or up the hill.

I have had mine in the low 5000s but I really try to keep it below 3800 good shift point on mine is 25-3200 I'm thinking that I will be good with the 2000-4500 rpm range do you think the smaller cam would be better ?

The spec for the 2106 is idle to 5500 RPM. Couple it with a dual plane manifold and the FE will appreciate it.... headers and a 4V carb, of course. I think ya might be overthinking this entire issue.

Alternatively, go for broke with the Performer RPM 7106 if ya think ya need more...
.572''/.572'' Lift
296°/296° Adv. Duration
1500-6500 RPM Range

Definitely pop fora single plane, rockers, and valve springs with .572 i/E lift.

The bigger the duration the higher the rpm. If you're trying to keep low rpm power and not spin to 5000 then you need to stick with duration of 275 and below.
