Thanks guys. I thought that I should have been able to get over 20 psi of boost but again I was mistaken. At least it's nice to know that everything is as it should be
there are adders that bleed the wastegate control signal (I found one on my truck after I started to learn what does what), there are variations of boost foolers (I discovered a cheesy one on my truck), but this does nothing for the wastegate.
Is this what you found? Some type of dial-a-bleed boost fooler?
(By the way, this is the first pic I've ever seen of your motor with valve covers. I was beginning to wonder if you just decided to leave them off for good! )

That is a proper boost fooler (note the Riffraff logo). It is an air pressure regulator that limits the boost to the MAP sensor to 21 PSI. Anything over that would trigger defueling on a stock tune (which I actually use in the winter and for troubleshooting). With certain tuners, the MAP voltage reaches the PCM and while it doesn't defuel at 22 PSI, it does set an SES light at 27 PSI. I don't have a problem with "alarms" on my current tuner - but I do have a problem with exceeding the max PSI for the MAP sensor - I blew one out.
Here is the cheezy boost fooler - a Zener diode that limited the MAP voltage:
...and this was the cheezy wastegate limiter on the red line:
I do leave the VCs off... the picture was taken before the problems started.
Wish we had the time. I would have loved to meet you. We spent the afternoon at cat tales and then pushed on towards Portland. I only remembered you were in Spokane when we stopped for lunch. I would have contacted you beforehand if I had thought about it. It was a last minute decision to try and hit three more states when we were in Calgary.
A lot of people are under the impression I live in Spokane - I actually live on the Columbia river (Wenatchee area), 45 minutes from the nearest interstate (I-90). We've been choking on wildfire smoke and sweeping ash off our vehicles for many weeks - but recent storms have finally cleared the air and subdued the fires.
I'm not complaining, though. While the ash is annoying, it's not the ash of my home that others are sweeping off their vehicles. I have a lot of coworkers that lost everything.
