i am looking for extra lift for the front of my 79 f150. i was originally looking coil spring spacers but haven't had any luck finding any so i was thinking of just potentially moving the spring bracket? figured i could reuse the existing bracket and drill 2 more holes in the bracket to push the springs down and gain a couple extra inches? anyone done this? would it still be strong/safe in moving the bracket down?
i included pictures to give you an idea of the bracket i'm talking about it....
This is my buddys '77. 39.5" boggers, no lift and trimmed the fenders 2" in the front. It doesn't take much to be able to fit bigger tires on these trucks.
Also, you are pushing the limits if you still have 1/2 tons and want to run 40"+ tires offroad.
yeah i'd like to stay away from cutting the fenders. I haven't found any fender flares for these trucks that I actually like. so the more I can gain from the suspension the better off I am.
don't worry about the axles. they are fairly temporary. working out a deal to throw rockwells underneath it eventually. going to run with these until I break.
without chewing up the fenders in the process? I plan to offroad the truck.
If you wheel it for long, you will end up lowering it down to make it more capable Anyways its your truck, you can do what you want. What ive seen people do is drill a second set of holes 2" higher in the coil towers to drop them down on the frame which will yield 2" of extra lift. Slide a piece of 2" square tubing between the frame and the lower flange on the coil tower and bolt/weld it in to tie the tower to the frame better.
