I have a compressor going bad. I don't want to end up stranded and I don't have funds for compressor and related parts. I have looked and seen post of the 7.3 a/c bypass but nothing for 6.0. Has anyone done this and if so what is part # and where did you get it from. If I have to do compressor can I replace and not hook up hoses and run till I can get the rest finished?
Is the compressor locking up and burning the belt, or is it just not cooling the truck? If it's just not working, and the belt is fine...run it til you have the funds to fix it...it won't hurt anything. Just don't turn the ac on.
I suspect it is going bad I was yesterday and air quit blowing cold. I stopped for twenty minutes and truck would not crank. Acted like dead batteries but I just replaced. Trying to crank I smelled belt. I read that compressors lock up and will not allow cranking. I sat for about ten minutes and then it cranked.
I found an old post on PSN, said Ford f5tz-8678-ac, Ford F5TE-19A216-FA or Dorman part 34180, make sure it's for an 8 rib belt.
Edit: that might be the 7.3L part. there was a guy on the .org that said a dealer parts counter found him an idler pulley that worked on a 6.0 though, just no PN given. You could call international also
Just unplug the connector to the compressor clutch to keep anyone from turning it on and snapping the belts. I had a ranger with 320k miles on it that I ran for 20k miles with a locked up ac compressor. I just disconnected the clutch coil plug to make sure I never cut it on and snap the serpentine belt.
