Thoughts on Windstar?

Anyone have any thoughts on the Windstars? I know it really isn't a truck, but I do like my fords. I find myself in need of a minivan now that we have number 3 in the oven.

Thanks

Thoughts on Windstar?

The Taurus van errrr Windstar is quite a good vehicle. They drive nice, are comfortable etc.
The transmissions in them are still a bit of a weak spot but generally the newer ones arent bad if they are maintained.
I've seen a few electrical problems on them lately but nothing too serious.
The older ones had head gasket problems but they arent as bad now.
If I needed a van I would own one.
Man I'm glad I dont need a van

The Windstar will no longer be made. Next year, if I'm not mistaken, The mini-van will be called the Freestar. It's basically the Windstar, just redesigned a little bit. Which means if you want a current year Windstar then look for the deals they always give to clear out the inventory for the new models.

We had three of them. Since the family has gotten older we don't need that much room. -just the opposite of you I guess. We didn't have any problems with the cars and liked them.

Thoughts on Windstar?

When my daugher and son-in-law came to visit about a year and a half ago, they rented a Windstar. After driving it around myself for a few hundred miles I like the Windstar way better than my Dodge mini van.

The Dodge is paid off so we'll just keep it for now. But the next time.....

I had and Expy that broke down(aaaargh) and traded it for a Windstar. I lost a lot of testosterone that day. But, I don't drive it, my wifey does. It is a very good van. Lot of room, ok power. Great safety features, has all the toys for a family. I'll do a search to see who rated them, but I know that the Windstar is the safest van out there. I got a 2002 with 32k miles for $13k in January. If you buy new, they depreciate fast, if you can buy a year old one. I bought a 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty through Ford for $1400. Hope this helps.

I have one and am very happy with it. It's a 96 with 92K miles on it. Just had to have a freeze plug replaced but that could be due to the fact that I live in the northeast (rust belt). The seats are easily removable, so you can carry some cargo if needed. Plenty of room to sit adults and kids in the back. Try to get one built after 95. Apparently that was the last year for the head gasket problem in the 3.8L motor. Also try to get one with the aux air conditioner in the back.

Have (actually, soon to be ex has) a '98. Frequent tranny fluid flushes are needed, but otherwise it's great. Rides great even loaded with people. Remove both sets of back seats and you've got a huge amount of room to haul stuff. Just get a set of nice wheels and tires on it and it will look less like a soccer-mom car.
