Hello all- I recently purchased my first Ford- for $900! A '76 econoline 100 on 3/4 ton running gear consisting of a 300 I-6, 4-speed(why did I have to buy a conversion just to get a stick in a van?) transfer case, Ford 9 and Dana 44, sitting pretty high on 31' tires. (33' and maybe 35' would fit.) I assume its a 3/4 ton based on the fact it has leaf springs up front-is this an acurate assumption? I actually don't even know what year the truck was- I'll reserch that here- an engine code perhaps? I recently did a bunch of body work my self and had it painted. I've been constantly working on a bunch of little things with it. (It keeps fouling the plug on cylinder 6), I got the aux tank going with a Niehof electric switcher.
I also have '74 Dodge camper van that is going to be the donor of a propane tank, in-wall heater, and a 2-way fridge/2-burner stove combination. (I actually live in the van currently-thankfully it's currently warm here in Durango CO - and I'm headed to Mexico for a couple months, but when I get back its time for the heater and a serious insulation job, for I hope the snow is dumpin'!
I love the van except for one very pressing concern- gas mileage. This I'm working on currently.
It seems that maybe there should be a thread on van/truck conversions? I have some issues specific to vehicles of this nature, such as what air filter to use. The stock 300 filter has clearance issues in the van, and I wonder if what's on there is big enough, espicially concidering I live at altitude.
I look forward to joining this online community- I'm sure to have a number of questions arise in what could be a long project......
