5.0 issues

So I've got this 94 F150 with a 302. It has recently been giving me some trouble. So it surges at idle and when stopped at a light, struggles to go up small hills and it has been giving me very poor MPG. Additionally, the check engine light will come on for a few seconds but will stay off for the rest of the drive. When the problems first started, my truck died when I was pulling into the driveway too. I just ordered spark plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor and an 02 Sensor. Gonna be cleaning out the throttle body as well. Is there anything else I should look at? Thanks for the help.

May not be your problem, but I have similar problems and I've masked them by blocking my EGR. Actually, I just pulled the vacuum hose and plugged it, but my EGR seals well. My EGR tube is busted and I am sucking in fresh air instead of exhaust and it's been causing some stumbling due to the leaning out of the fuel mix.
