hi i have a 1995 F150 with a 4.9 and a 5 speed. It has started to buck, not really a miss but kinda like a miss but it only does it when it gets to about 1800-2000 rpms. I have pulled the codes and it said the map sensor was out of range and the egr was not opening. so i replaced the map sensor. it has always said the egr did not open so i didn't bother with it. i changed the iab and it is still doing it. i checked the fuel pressure which turned out to be 45psi at idle and about 55psi when not running. this sounds kind of high to me but what would cause this problem? fuel pressure regulator? would this cause the bucking i explained. the truck also seems to have an extreme loss of power. i had never had a line of cars behind me until it started this and it is really irritating. please help me with this problem.
thanks in advance
Justin
a faulty EGR will make your motor loop like it was starving for fule but if you wanna test this theroy bo buy a EGR gasket, and a can or 2 of brake part cleaner take off your EGR valve hose it down inside let that brake cleaner eat all the carbon away you can even use a catch pan while you are spraing and then let it soak for 30 min blow it out manualy if you don't have an air compressor wipe it down put it back on if it fixed it good you just saved about 65 bucks if not the you should look at your TPS Throttle Possition Sensor it could have a dead spot in it
I have the exact same issues on my '96 with 5.0. In addition, my fuel milage has gone from a steady 17mpg to no better than 13mpg. I will be checking the same things you just mentioned.
Wow, I didn't realize this was such a common problem. Tonight I'll be putting a new EGR valve on along with new O2 sensors and a TPS sensor. I'll keep you updated.
I have already done the cap and rotor. I also changed the O2 sensors last summer. Today I changed the fuel filter. Seems to have restored some lost power. I will be logging about 200 miles Wednasday so I will be able to see if the filter has helped much. The idle seems to hang a bit between shifts. Its a 5 speed manual. If I shift at 3000 it will hang there sometimes. Would the EGR or TPS affect it this way?
if the EGR is sticking it can either force exhaust gasses into your motor which inturn causes it to stay where it was when you let off the gas or it can starve the motor for air if it is stuck closed causeing it to loop and stal hope this helps like i said prevously in this thred you can try to clean it but that is not a perminant fix if it fixes it at all but you can also get a new one from www.rockauto.com
