The guys at the parts store say I need 60oz of stuff in the thing to completely recharge it, how do I tell if I have a leak or if the little amount of stuff I put in the system just 'evened out' and I lost all that pressure again?
Yeah 60oz is way too much. Without a set of gauges on it you are just guessing.

Doesn't matter. That's, what, close to 4 lbs? I don't think I've seen a vehicle that's called for more than 2.5-2.75 lbs. Most are around the 2 lb mark. Check under the hood, it will tell you

Tahoes take 4lbs and the AC is ice cold.

Well, the guy wasn't guessing, he looked it up on the store computer. But my question still is, is it leaking or was 12oz not enough to keep the pressure up?

I'm thinking if 12oz is enough to engage the compressor, he shouldn't need too much more

12oz did engage it, but not for long. All this happened within about a minute or two of pressuring up.

Lots of information here.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-speak-up.html

I have not succeeded in getting a dealer to repair mine. They barely even look at it under its problem conditions/temperatures.

Good Luck
