They are in the process of imploding the PETRO $ at the moment which was setup in the early 70's. People do not realize what our rulers have done. There is no payment with this system it is all make believe and routed through the creditors.

We do not make anything anymore so we will be at the mercy of the off shore corporations who left and setup shop in foreign countries.

One advantage of a spark ignition engine is the ability to run it on wood gas. I'm not sure that's even possible with compression ignition.

The "Walkers" or "Biters" (Zombies) are slow, predictable, not as plentiful, and easy to defend from. In a real-world scenario, there would be too many able-bodied, well-motivated, and armed consumers for very few resources. The shortages of food alone will have various root causes - unsafe roads (bandits) would be at the top of the list. Without safe roads, how do you acquire the goods you need just to grow, process, and deliver the food? In other words... how does the refinery worker get to work to make the fuel, then the fuel get to the gas station, then the farmer get to the gas station to fuel up his tractor, and so on?

Say you have a ZA diesel and the means to make fuel until you run out of those supplies... where ya gunna go? Many people say "I'll go into the mountains and live off the land." The problem is... many people say that - meaning those resources will be tapped beyond sustainability as well.

Stock up on freeze-dried/canned food, learn survival skills, get some blades (and learn how to use them) for when the ammo runs out, learn to make fuel and a bullet-proof vehicle... it only increases your chances. It's coming... and I've never heard one person say, or seen one person write "no it's not".

My master plan? Do the stock-up thing (including trading goods and foreign cash), because I've had misfortune before and I know how stocking up on certain things can help. Keep my stuff as close to 100% as possible, so it will "coast" without repairs as long as luck allows. I've already learned a number of survival skills, but I have a couple of books on the matter to have handy in the ZA. But mostly - stay fit, anticipate as much as I can about what that world would really be like, and plan. That way, I'm not standing there stunned in the first few crucial hours, deer-in-the-headlights look on my face, saying "What do I do?".

One crucial skill in the ZA? Stealth. Think electric/hybrid vehicle and stock up on flat black or camo paint.

If you're looking for an electric generator to charge up an electric/hybrid car, give up on the internal combustion engine and get a Sterling engine - it will make electricity out of anything that creates a heat differential (heats or cools) - geothermal, nuclear, burning paper, wood, coal, fuel, or even zombies.
Globalization is just a house of cards, a lot of people think this thing is going to collapse soon and some think 80 to 90% of Americans could bite the dust. FDR asked in the great depression when the CITI of London forced the country into bankruptcy and took it over if the people wanted the government to create jobs just to put people to work that really served no purpose and the dumb herd said YAAA!!!!

Well you get what you ask for and this collapse because it's all just based on Ponzi schemes will be one painful lesson for humanity.

If you have not seen the Gen Pax water car look it up, I think it's real and our rulers have to keep us on oil. You will not believe what this Japanese company has created.

Thanks, is a carburator simpler than your simplest FI systems?

She's the last of the V-8's!

In my opinion, in a "total chaos" SHTF situation, vehicle is only going to be good if roadways are open(not destroyed or barricaded) AND a group of people doesn't TAKE it from you. Otherwise, bug out only. Keep in mind those prepared will be overwhelmed by those who did not.....

Once the population has "thinned" out and you are in a more controlled environment, a vehicle will likely be useful for scavenging or relocating.

My vote would be something LESS computerized than the Powerstroke...something that will roll start, run without a battery or alternator working.

Mad Max's Mack would guzzle too much diesel! (pneumatic start is neat...assuming you can pump air up manually....)

Simplicity is relative to knowledge. If one knows more about carbs, it's probably simpler for them to build or repair a carb.

I looked at buying a Mad Max Mack because I always loved the old Screamin D cement mixers when I was a kid walking to school listening to that old Jimmie sing. There was one on EBAY that was beautiful that sold for 10 grand, a 73 model D cab 238 5SPD with only like 300,000 miles on it.

Thanks and I agree, although the PS is probably the best PU truck engine ever made I think the IDI is better in the long run just because you never know..

You can get nice old rigs for a good price. Put a cattle catcher on it for mowing over the Zombies so you don't wreck your body work or paint.

Best bet is probably a gasser with a wood gas generator in the bed. Used all over europe in wwII and in use in north korea now. Want to know what to do in a shtf scenario, read up on what happened in argentina about 15 yrs ago. Its truly eye opening. Looks like argentina is heading back down that road. and things arent looking so good for the rest of us long term.

I'm alittle late to this party
I would say if SHTF I would go with is my 7.3 PSD since there are a million out there to rape parts off of. Besides I already have the truck and a working understanding of how it works. Honestly a 6.9 IDI more of them are in a junk yard then on the road. But if SHTF I have a back plan for my back plan. I have a few good running vehicles, a few boats and motorhome as far as transportion. As far as where I will go I can tell you it will be away from other humans.

With all that is going on in this world today it could be anything from a dirty bomb, nuke, EMT blast, ZA, the fall of the US goverment or something as stupid as bringing a person with ebola into the country. Whatever the case is my goal will be to keep my family safe and alive. I trust in God, Colt and Sog and hope I did a good enough job planning.

For you guys that say you have ammo that is one of them things you just can't have enough of !! So when SHTF and you run out you aren't going to be able to go to the store to get more. I myself am set to reload my own shells. I save brass and buy powder and primers when I have the cash.

When talking about ZA or some kind of infectious pathogen threatens mankind I am headed towards open water in a boat of course. In shows and movies people are always trying to run from Zombies on land. DUMB !!
Zombies and sick people can't or don't swim !! Just something to think about and I would also like to share with you guys something that helps me when I think about the world we live in and the what if SHTF. I have a 3'x3' Smiley face sign that has a small sticker at top that says "It's a Sick World but I am a Happy Guy"
Now this can be construed two different ways...
Well I am just a "Happy Guy"

Thanks ALOTTT!!!!, you know there are a lot of technologies that were developed in WW2 like the gasification of coal that they do not want use to know about.
