When I "tried" hauling fuel(long story short that driving job sucked..did not do it long) I was told by my trainer that you are supposed to smear some water detecting paste on the end of the stick that you use to measure the fuel station's tank level, to show the amount of water at the bottom of the tank, and if it is higher than a certain amount(don't remember exactly), then you cannot deliver the fuel to that tank until the station has the water removed.. Some drivers skip this test because it's well.. A PITA. They would rather dump and move on to the next load... and I'm sure the stations skimp on the water check as well, when they stick the tanks.. And this is one way that water gets to our fuel tanks..

And I'm real sorry to hear about your situation, JERRY1465. I've had my fuel system replaced before too (pump failure/shredding) and know it's not pretty...
Yeah, I know. I have two tanks so 2 places to add DK and 2 places to pump fuel (it's the fastest way to fill them both) but only 1 check for water. And it is not absolutely a sure thing, the water could get pumped after I check the fuel. But there are so many of these bad fuel reports on this and other diesel forums that I feel better for doing it.

So I swung by the dealer today to get some stuff out of my truck. I was told the low pressure system was done now onto the high pressure. They are shooting for it to be done in Thursday. That would make it 4 weeks since it was towed to dealer and my education of the hpfp began. I can't wait to get it back and hook up the camper on Friday and take the family for the weekend. The ford fusion they loaned me gets good mileage but its just not the same! Lol

Update

I finally got my truck back Friday at 5:00 so my trip was delayed a little but we did get to go. Truck ran great and I got my best mileage yet towing my camper,11.5 mpg, never did that good before. Coincidence? Probably but I'll take it. One little problem though. About 130 miles into trip I look down at fuel gauge and it says 1/4 tank? I was just at 3/4! I watch it slowly drop to E and my Dte down to 0.
Oh crap! Is my truck dumping fuel? Is my gauge screwed up? So I hit the next exit for fuel and it only takes 12 gallons of fuel. Start the truck up gauge goes to full. 100 miles down the road same thing. I just kept driving to campground. I filled it up last night so I would be ready to roll this morning when we leave and I squeezed 9 gallons in it. So back to dealer Monday to fix fuel gauge. I'm guessing something got screwed up in the whole hpfp repair. 80 miles into the trip home we stop at rest area and I smell coolant. Puddle on ground and my fuel gauge down to E again! Made it home watching temp all the way, never overheated. Will be a great discussion with service dept. Monday morning.
