Cool idea but frankly an entire Intel based PC in your car is overkill. Using my Pioneer touch screen and my android phone I can control a bunch of stuff in my car including using my OBD interface. Using tasker and the google now launcher I can do everything without touching anything just by saing "Ok Google" and then the command including navigation, playing music, etc. The head unit boots up almost instantly too. Even with a SSD you'll be waiting for it to boot.
We used to build carputers many years ago, it would have been nice to have it all in one like that, the technology just wasn't there. You had to have a remote pc/mac mini mounted usually in the trunk and then a touchscreen and audio gear up front.
Rasberry pi is nice for the builder geek, but it still ends up being a bunch of separate components. This is still better for the less techy ametuer as it's self contained.
Gotta have it on the mount though.... Police always have their laptops on mounts...
Not as stiff as I'd like it to be, but it works for iPads and netbooks...anything bigger and you need to add additional braces. Works great for our SAR work.
