So you're asking if a 2wd F-150 would be the same as a 2wd F-150? That's a pretty silly question.

Now if you told us the year and engine of BOTH vehicles then we MIGHT be able to help you.

been my experience that with Ford to stay within 2 years......Ford likes to change every 2 years....for example on a 1997, 98 should work, but 99 has a lot of different stuff....

The both should have the button on the shifter.

If you have both trucks take a look at the data tag in the driver's door opening. There is a TR shown, and under that either a U or an E. If the same letter is on both trucks the trans should work fine.

I have 1997 4.2 v6 automatic with a bad trans. I also have a 1998 5.4v8 with a good automatic transmission. Both have the letter "U" on the data tag on the drivers door post. Will the v8 trans work in the v6 truck?

No, it will not. The 4.2L and 5.4L have different bolt patterns. While they are both 4R70W transmissions, they will not interchange.
