HOOD

I just got another hood for my 49 F1 put were the hood latch goes is almost all gone, there was only about 1/4 of the last bolt on the passenger side left attached. The rest of the bolts were still bolted to the lip but the lip was not attached to the hood any more. The piece that goes over the radiator was almost rotted away also. My questions is there a way to repair this or is this hood to far gone? I have pictures but I do not know how to load them

Hey Tom,
To post a pic as a supporter. Click on the paperclip icon up on the Fonts line. This will let you browse your hard drive & upload directly from there.
The file has to be under a Max. Size limit. It's pretty straight forward.

Good luck with your Hood over there in Florida.

Trying this on my phone so you may have to manipulate the url if you are on a computer but here's a link of what I did just for reference. You can also search my user name and "custom latch panels" and find it. Here's the link though....

Anything made of metal can be repaired. A whole new hood could be made, it just depends on the skill of the person and how much you value your time and the cost of a good original piece, if it is worth the effort. That said, a rust free 49 hood shouldn't be that difficult to find or expensive to buy. It doesn't need to be from an F1, all the models used the same hood and the ones on larger trucks are often in better condition and cheaper. You may need to go inland or north to GA or AL to get away from the salt spray corrosion in coastal FL. Most larger cities have large truck salvage yards or ride around the back streets and alleys in the commercial areas and look for old trucks parked in the back corners of parking lots used by trucking companies, Also there are a lot of truck farms in FL, ride around the agricultural areas.

I had a wanted ad on CL for quite a while for the same hood, 48-50 F series. I got one reply from someone over in E. North Carolina, quite a hike. So I drove over, found the hood to be worse than the one I was working on. I bought it cheap, came home and finished repairing my original hood. Weeks of work involved to get mine to look decent and I had no rust. If you can post pictures of the problem areas of your hood, and mine is better, you can have it for what I have in it, $30. I will not pack it to ship. 51Panelman says he has two repairable hoods. Bigwin56 had one at the Supernationals. Packing and shipping would be the killer.

I have a good hood but I'm in California. It can be shipped. I'll sell it cheap just to get it out of my way. PM or email me for details.
