I spent more time installing the windows than I did mating the transmission and motor and then installing both. It was amazing that it was so complex; it made me wonder how they did it at the factory.

I am really glad to hear I am not alone in thinking this is a big job. It has taken all day just to get the channel and glass in. Those anti rattle felts have weak clips, I think made of plastic. Tried hard to break them all. Only managed to break most of them.

Peter Bird,
Who did you get your window channel kit from and would you recommend them?

Hey, Bill, I bought this locally, that is, a mob in Melbourne, Vic. (Australia) They came in a pack marked Vintique. The tabs broke off the felt things, but since I am having strife moving the glass through the channel, I really don't care too much as I will be probably refitting them with sikaflex sealant or some such stuff. They seemed to break too easily for mind, but it was probably my lack of technique more than anything. The old felts had little tabs you folded through to the back but these ones...well, I can't actually say whether they are replaceable as yet because they are still in the door. From memory I don't think the clips were replaceable. Anyway, I think a lot of guys just glue the buggers in there for a flusher fit.

The division bar seems nice. It has a nice chrome finish, but is not same quality as original. Still seems okay. The channel pieces for the doors look good. They are a fairly soft felt inside of questionable durability, but way better than nothing at all, which is what I virtually had. My only real gripe with these is that they could have been a half inch longer at the bottom so that they reach the little foldable tab on the rail.

I put the felts in first and slid the door channels in afterwards. I tried it the other way on the first door but I couldnt figure out how to get the rotten clip in on the very end one where it meets with the channel. Well, it broke anyway, so maybe I would next time put the channel in and just glue those rotten felt bars in afterwards.

I still haven't been able to get one clip completely into the slot in the door and am loathe to bash it with something, but might have to resort to something viscous to get it in. Others went in okay. Applied pressure to one side until I heard a click and then the other side of channel until they clipped into place. I think it was purely a fluke they went in.

I bought them from a mob called The Pickup Place. They are selling off all their stock now and apparently closing down that part of their business, so I got a pretty good deal on the lot.

Cheers
Peter

You old ones apparently weren't OEM either. That sounds like a much better system, tho. Vintiques is a US vendor, and believe it or not I've found their clips are 100% better than those supplied by Dennis C, LMC, MACs, etc. Why oh why they can't install the clips onto the whiskers using a jig at the factory is just beyond me. I'd gladly pay $10 a whisker more for one all ready to just snap in, with high quality clips.

Just for the record my door felts did not fit either, I used a self adhesive strip of Velcro (the fuzzy part) was able to sneak that on the door from the top side, it actually looks pretty good, got mine at a craft store
