Aftermarket Gauges

So relatively new here, I just picked up a new to me 1981 F150 shortbed 4x4. The stock gauges work but I'd like to have a tach, oil pressure and ammeter/ voltage gauge, I think aftermarket may be easier for me.

I agree. The aftermarket gauges are more accurate with numbers on the faces.

That's my thinking, and if I have to rewire my dash anyways for the stock board and such, why not just make a nice mount and attach a group of SW or Datcon gauges?

If I don't get much info here, I'll make this into a how to once I get the time and parts.

I think a ScanGauge II would be cheaper (and a lot less install time) for you IF it is sanctioned for your vehicle.... do you have an ODBII port? If not, sorry.

I would, except this is a carburetated setup, no obdII or speed density.

Many good gauges and POD's out there. Take your time and mount them carefully and they will do you well. As I had gauges before the ScanGauge came out, I have both.

Agree actual gauges instead of the glorified idiot lights and so-called gauges in our instrument clusters are a great idea. Autometer are great but there are certainly alternatives too---I have more money than sense some days.

There is another member who mentioned Auber Instuments which are digital display gauges with a variety of transducers and sensors. That too is an option if that look and function is appealing.

I actually prefer the analog gauges, and Stewart Warner seems to be coming in at a lower price point, at least on speedway motors. This is going to be back burnered until after I get the drivetrain swap done on my 53 M37.
