I recently acquired my Great Uncle's 1963 Econoline Pickup! I am going to try and restore it to original condition to the day it drove off the lot. I am not very savvy with classic cars yet and need some help finding out as much as possible with this truck. Here is the Body Plate ID and can't quite seem to come up with a color code.
no color code means it was ordered from the factory a non standard color... my 63 econoline did not have a color code either, come to find out after stripping all the layers of paint off it was originally Army Green.
You know your plate has been removed and put on with pop rivets? That means the door was changed or something nefarious was going on. Check your frame VIN to make sure.
Wow, that's pretty cool. So is the best thing to do just strip down every color till I hit metal then the last color is the original?
i would try to find an area on the body somewhere that looks to have the original color intact.... like under the vin plate, or between some body panel that was not removed when it was painted and have it matched. if your worried about the vin plate being jacked up, you can get a replacement one made via ( http://www.martiauto.com/tags.cfm ) you can also get the original rivits to hold it on.
I appreciate everyone's help on this. My only delay at the moment is I am stationed in Hawaii till the end of Feb next year. My Great Uncle has the truck at the moment till I find a Truck Pickup service to deliver truck to my dads in Pensacola. So I'll email my uncle and have him take a look. He seems to think the original color was a baby blue type color. And thanks for the link, this will be something that I will be doing for sure.
