My '01 Super Duty PSD 4x4 250 steers hard at idle while holding the brake. It feels OK when moving. Could this be a p/s pressure problem or is it caused by the added weight of the diesel engine? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have stock size Nitto Terra Grapplers, so I don't feel it is caused by the tires. Tire pressure OK. Even increased pressure to 70psi from recommended 60 psi, but still have same problem.
Thanks,

My 01 F250 CC is hard to steer while not rolling too, but isn't it bad to turn the steering wheel while the truck isn't rolling? At least that's what my pops used to tell me. Been that way since new as far as I remember. Anyway I suspect it's due to the added weight of the motor.
Same problem here. I thought it could be a combination of things, slightly lower idle rpms turning steering pump slower along with added weight. Just a guess, I dont really know.
I'm starting to think it may be related to the newer models having a hydraboost brake set-up. Maybe the combination of using the brakes and steering is lowering pressure to the steering system. If that's the case, I'm wondering if the power steering pump pressure could be increased.
Same thing here. Try this: As long as these trucks are, sometimes you dont have the room to let it be rolling as you try to adjust your swing angle. Slowly let off of the brake as you turn the wheel. If you do it right, you won't roll and find a point where the wheel is more willing to turn. At least it works for me.
I have experienced the same "sensation" when trying to turn the wheel with the brake on. It feels like a hydraulic lock. I wasn't sure if it released on its own or if it happened when I took my foot off the brake. I'll have to pay closer attention next time I'm in that position. I think it's always been when manuevering in parking situations. (2001 F250 4x4 Superduty PSD Longbed Standard cab). It sounds like it must be normal, I don't think weight is the issue??!!??
I have the same problem. I have noticed an improvment when I have more R's on the engine while turning the wheel. I do believe it is a pressure issue, and possibly excess bypass in the valving on a older or worn unit. I believe AGR has a fix for the Steering problems, Saganaw Gear Box and new pump. I am runnign 35X12.5's so it is a little more difficult to turn.
