This morning my radio had no display, clock, station nothing. The radio still works fine other than that, any ideas? Its a '98 4.0L, fancy sound system (single CD/Cassette).
There is a bulb in most of these radios that illumunates the display. You can get one at any auto parts store and you will have to slide the radio out to get to it. First you remove the trim around the dash to get to the mounting screws. Let me know if you need more info but it's pretty self explanitory.

On the older radios, there was a bulb for back lighting the LCD
display. On the 98 radio, there is a DC to DC power supply for
the display that goes out (located inside the radio).
Bob,
Can this power supply be replaced or is getting a new radio the only way? (In which case I'll just live with it), Also where can one get the tool that fits in those holes on the radio to get it (the radio)out?, Im guessing thats what they are for...
Sounds like you are having the famous "blank radio display" problem which is unfortunately very common in our Rangers. Ford also put the same radios in Explorers, Mountaineers and other trucks, so there are a lot of them out there on the road with the problem.
