so the other day my e99 wouldn't start, so real quick to get to work i jumped the solenoid and she fired right up then when i stopped at the store i heard the starter engage so i pulled the trigger wire, next day i replaced the solenoid with a new ford oem and it has been starting fine for 2 weeks now same symptoms so i start it up from under the hood, run an errand come back home and go to shut the truck down and when i turn the key off every thing shuts off except the fan is still blowing on hi, strange so i shut it off and with the keys in my pocket i head towards the house the starter engages, i check my pockets and there are my keys, any ideas what could cause the truck to do this ????
Sounds like a mixture of a sloppy shifter lever (maybe) - try pushing it all the way up in park next time. And a bad GEM (definitely) module. Peel the carpet back on the driverside floor and I bet it will be damp from your leaking windshield that you didn't know was leaking. The GEM is located behind the fuse box under the steering wheel. Do a quick search and you'll be surprised how much youll find on a bad GEM
Do you have an aftermarket alarm? Even if you have never used the alarm, if it is installed (usually under the dash below the steering wheel fuse cover) it can prevent starting and it can intermittently start the truck even with keys removed. If there is a high resistance power connection to this alarm, it may malfunction in this way. Larry
John thank you, you were right on the money, went to the bone yard today and found a gas truck with a good looking one and put it and everything is working as it is supposed to. perfect example of why fte is wicked awesome
