Dome Light

Hey guys,

Im in the process of closing up the inside of the roof on my 56 Ford F-150 and F-250. Someone removed the center brace on the 250 to install some kind of a beacon or strop light. Cut a 4" hole in the center of the roof. What fun that has been to weld a patch in the center of the roof and minimize the warping. Now have to fabricate that center of cab reinforcement that also serves as a mount for the dome light. I have several spare parts dome light housings, but none of the components that complete the dome light. I see everything is still available but I do have one question. In the stock application, is there a dome light switch on just the drivers side door, or both doors?

When wired correctly, the dome light comes on when on (or either) door opens and shuts off when it closes. It also shuts on and off by turning the headlight switch counter clockwise. Is this correct?

So I want the stock dome light working in the 250 for now. I may customize the F-100's when I get to them, but strictly stock for the 250. Wondering if I should use the long wiring leads that run from the light switch all the way to the socket, or just the socket with pigtails. Thinking if the stock application had door pillar switches on both sides, I have to have a pigtail that will accomodate connections to both switches?

Crude Drawing, More like awesome! Thanks Dave. I just checked door pillars and one of my trucks has rubber grouments in both sides on the front door posts. I would not think that would be for housing a switch, but then Im not sure what else it would do. I do remember wires running from the back of the light switch up the inside of the pillar and to the dome light on the drivers side, but not much else.
