Interior Dome Light Activation
Have read several posts on this forum regarding problems with "door ajar" light. Curious whether my problem is somewhat similar.
Problem: When operating correctly, the interior dome light should illuminate upon opening either door. Appears to have three bulbs; left, center, and right. All three come on when opening door. When door is closed, light times out and goes off. Once off, the integral slider switch may be moved left or right of center to illuminate the left or right bulb, respectively.
However, on my particular vehicle, this nice little convenience system is flaky; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
And if the interior light does not come on when opening the door, then the manual left-right switch doesn't work either. Also, the glovebox light will not work when the interior light is malfunctioning. Sometimes, if the door is left open for a period of time, the system may decide to begin working and the light comes on, etc.
Any ideas? Switch related? (and where would that switch be located?) Perhaps a loose connection somewhere? Why would dome light effect glovebox light? Why would the dome light not function manually, unless there is a malfunctioning door switch which should be providing "ground"? Why would Ford cause the glovebox light to be powered (or grounded, as the case may be) by such a switch?
Informative input appreciated, oh Great Knowledgeable Ones.
Thank you.
