At first glance I thought It was a 9" from a car. But taking a closer look, it doesn't look like a 9" and it might not even be a ford.
It has a 5x4.5 bolt pattern
10 bolts holding the 3rd member on and it is a long nose, 1 piece casting. (Not like a regular 9" that has the pinion plate)
The drain/fill plug is on the passenger side
The back side of the diff is perfectly spherical.
On the driver side of the 3rd member it has casting numbers
My ol man got it from somewhere long ago. I threw it under my pickup trailer for a quick way to get rolling. But I really need a 9" or an 8.8" with the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern.
So yes I'm trying to sell or trade this one for a ford axle that I need. I just threw it up on Craigslist for $300.
I get the 5 by 5.5 thing, assuming you want to match your truck but why a 8.8 or 9" and not a trailer axle? My assumption would be you want to match your truck, so parts in particular brakes will be the same but with those axles more is always turning. In my pickup trailer I use a FF 10.25 and pull the axles for the reasons above. But my rigs are all 8 by 6.5. Just thought I'd toss that out there.
I would love to have a trailer axle, but none that I've seen have the big bolt pattern. They are all 5x4.5". I did find some trailer hubs, but they were expensive, light weight, and I'd have to build my own axle.
