I'm taking possession of a Winnebago that is built on a E450 chassis (brand new). I'll be keeping this unit for a really long time, and may also do some towing. The GCWR is supposed to be 20,000 lbs and the GVWR is supposed to be 14,000 lbs. so I believe that means that I can tow up to 6K lbs, no?
Anyway I am interested in knowing what modifications I should consider to this. A good exhaust header system is probably a must to improve power and gas mileage. But what about these things?
- Tranny Cooler and Tranny Temp Gauge
- Better Air Filter/Intake System
- Brake Buddy or SMI System
I'd like to hear opinions on these and any other modifications to improve mileage, power, or longevity of the components.
what motor..V10 ? i think your GCWR will be higher than 20K,but i'm not sure on the E series.14000 lb GVW is pretty decent.i'm just guessing that your limiting factor would be your gross combined and you need to find that out.on a class A 450 motor home the GVW is 26000 and with a 15700 GVW max trailer wt. is 10300 according to the brochure and the V10 450 reg. chassis cab auto with 4.88 axle is 24000gvw 5.38 axle 26000gvw.
I did a little more reading. The Winnebago brochure says that there is 3500 lb towing capacity and a 350 lb tongue weight hitch. Not sure if this will be enough to tow my 4Runner.
Anyway, still interested in knowing what engine/tranny mods might be worth looking at.
